About Modern Outpost...
By now you've probably had the chance to browse at least part of our site, and maybe you even have a copy of our catalog sitting on your kitchen counter. Now you'd like to know a little more about Modern Outpost and the values that this name represents.
Value & service since the late 1900's
Modern Outpost was originally formed back in 1998 - in the heady days of the internet, before the great millenium bug scare of 1999. Our goal was simple: provide most innovative products for the outdoor lifestyle. We started with a handful of products, primarily in the area of personal solar & dynamo power. Multi-function radios & flashlights was a cornerstone of our beginnings. Our goal continues to be to provide you with only the best products available, which is why we back them like we do.
Occasionally we get asked why we don't carry the latest boots, tents, or clothing. The reason is simple... they aren't as much fun to play with. Not to mention that just about every other outdoor retailer is packed to the rafters with fleece, wool, leather & nylon. No, we would rather stick to the hardware. The amorphous silicon, metal hydride, and barometric pressure aspects of outdoor recreation & self-reliant living.

We want to see you back here at the Outpost for many years to come, but we know that in this day and age you have many choices. So rather than trying to take your choices away like other 'customer loyalty' programs do, we thought we would make you a simple promise...

What exactly does this mean?
1. Satisfaction
If, for any reason, you are not satisfied with your Modern Outpost purchase, simply mail it back to us within 30 days of purchase for a complete refund of the product price. No hassles.
2. Support
We will provide the best warranty service available. We handle most issues ourselves, & only involve the manufacturer when it will provide you with better, faster service.
Did you know that we cover shipping costs when it comes to warranty issues? That's right, if it's broken, & it wasn't your fault, we pay the postage. We don't even need you to be able to find your receipt!
3. Quality
Why would we pledge to cover warranty shipping costs, and then decide to sell garbage?
No, we only sell stuff that works, and works well. Every new item is thoroughly tested & evaluated prior to being given the privilege of being put into our catalog. Call it a 'no crap' policy if you like, but we want only the best for our customers.
4. Selection
It's not possible to carry every product from every manufacturer, but we can try. We have been known to go out of our way to get what people need, so if you need an item from a manufacturer we represent, and we don't have it in our catalog, just give us a call & we will get it on the next stagecoach out. The same goes for special bulk orders for special events too.
5. Advice We've seen a lot of cool gear pass through our doors over the years. So if you have a question about a particular item, or want advice about how some new technology works, please feel free to send us an email. Don't forget our Buying Guide pages too. When we can, we let you know about the untold lemons sold by other retailers.
