High-Res TOPO data...
Plug one of the Atlas TOPOCards into the Atlas MNS and marvel at having true USGS 1:24k topographical maps in the palm of your hand. Game management, quad boundaries, rivers, lakes, backroads, & contour lines in addition to points of interest.
Mapping Capabilities
Maps are far more useful than simple point to point or coordinate directions. The Atlas comes with a built-in base map of the entire world, & medium detail base map of North America. Also available are dozens of optional highly detailed point-of-interest regional map cards with real 1:24k USGS or NRC topographic data & wildlife/land use management data.
Receiver Technology
Basic GPS units will chart your position within 40 meters, but a WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) enabled GPS unit can utilize signals from both land stations & satellites to pinpoint your position to within 3 meters. The Atlas is WAAS enabled, allowing you to take advantage of this increased accuracy. The Atlas utilizes a sensitive 12-channel receiver for obtaining positional information quickly and reliably. Dual processors on the Atlas MNS means fast aqusition & satellite signal processing.
TrueMagnetic Digital Compass
Use the MNS as a standard digital compass and save battery power when satellites are not needed. The compass is also integrated to the GPS data, allowing you to navigate to a stored waypoint at the touch of a button without turning on the GPS receiver. A great way to extend your battery life.
StormWatch Barometer
Displays current conditions, pressure trends, 36-hour history, and provides a 12-hour trend-based forecast.
StraightHome
Simple one-button navigation short cut that gets you back to your camp or trailhead without the use of satellites.
External Antenna
The Atlas' external antenna jack improves its usefulness inside a vehicle where GPS signal reception is often limited. The Atlas' optional external antenna is designed for both GPS & WAAS reception.
PC Interface
A PC interface is useful when you want to transfer custom maps & route plans you create using available mapping software, or store GPS data on your PC. Atlas options include a PC multimedia card reader & RS-232 data cable so you can conveniently transfer information to & from your PC.
Memory
The Atlas comes with expanded memory that helps you recall addresses & phone numbers of your favorite points of interest. The built-in backup memory stores GPS data for decades. It will also remember up to 1,000 waypoints, 1,000 event markers, 100 reversible routes, & 10 plot trails with 10,000 points per trail. Compact memory cards can store up to 128MB of data.
User Interface
Big display screens are always preferred with mapping GPS units. The Atlas provides the largest currently available on a handheld unit. Other advanced Atlas interface features include full & splitscreen display options, 37 zoom levels for maps (0.05-4,000 miles), easy cursor control using the rocker button, easy or advanced operation modes, 42 selectable graphic symbols for waypoints or events, searchable databases of highways & points of interest, Man Overboard capability, & audible alarms. An electroluminescent backlit display makes it easy to read in dark places.
Optional TopoCards
Although the Atlas comes with an excellent built-in base map, more detailed information is available by plugging in one of the MapCards for your area. Streets, points of interest, and more detailed information to find your way around quickly & easily. Choose a MapCard before heading out on your next road trip!
TopCards are detailed USGS maps at your fingertips. Choose the card for the area you will be travelling in and get all the terrain & trail information you need.
