The Brunton Explorer is an affordable solar power solution for your small USB electronics. The Explorer provides 5 watts of power in a lightweight, flexible, durable design.

Independent panels maximize performance while also providing exceptional durability.

What do we mean by "independent panels"? Well, the Explorer is designed with each individual panel face as a separate panel in and of itself. This means that each of the 4 individual panel faces of the Explorer provides 25% of the total power, but each at the correct voltage. This means that you don't have to open the entire panel if you don't want to.

If the sun is strong, will the panel surge & fry my iPhone?

No. The output voltage of the panel is determined by its chemistry & cell configuration. Fluctuations in the sun result in a change in the output current, not the voltage. The voltage remains set to 5V for the Explorer. The max output current is 1Amp (1000mA), which is in the normal range for the USB standard.

Can I use my iPod, phone, or PDA while connected to the Brunton Explorer?

Yes. When it is connected, the Explorer will power your device & charge the device battery at the same time.

Do I need a sunny day to use the Explorer?

Yes. The Explorer will charge as long as there is daylight, with the rate dependant on the intensity of the light. It will produce the most power in direct, bright sunlight. If you need to have power during off-daylight hours, then you will need to add a solar power storage battery (as per the models mentioned above).
