The L5 is Brunton's latest LED powerhouse, containing a luxeon 5 watt LED lamp. This latest in headlamp technology pushes white light out to 246 feet (75m) for up to 15 hours, with power save run times up to 50 hours. Brunton does not provide an actual lumens output rating for the L5, but 250 Lumens is a reasonable estimate based on Luxeon literature.

What's the big deal with LEDs?...
The great thing about LEDs is that they are a solid state device, and as such are incredibly difficult to break, and they are not subject to burn-out like standard halogen & incandescent bulbs. Compare the 100,000 hour run time of an LED against the several thousand hours on a halogen bulb.
So, they are tough, and last a long time. But perhaps even more important is their miserly use of battery power. An LED consumes about 1/10th the amount of power as a halogen in producing the same amount of light. When battery run time & headlamp performance is important to you, choose an LED headlamp.
