A bright idea...

The Brunton RL6 has been designed for a wide range of outdoor activities including hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, & spelunking. Features such as a mode cycle switch that starts at the power save level so that you not only conserve battery power, but protect your eyes' night vision. The red LED protects your night vision by using a wavelength that does not cause your eyes to continually have to make drastic adjustments between the illuminated area and surrounding dark. A water resistant, anti-reflective body with tilting head is powered from the ergonomic AA battery housings on the headband.

What's the big deal with LEDs?...

The great thing about LEDs is that they are a solid state device, and as such are incredibly difficult to break, and they are not subject to burn-out like standard halogen & incandescent bulbs. Compare the 100,000 hour run time of an LED against the several thousand hours on a halogen bulb.

So, they are tough, and last a long time. But perhaps even more important is their miserly use of battery power. An LED consumes about 1/10th the amount of power as a halogen in producing the same amount of light. When battery run time & headlamp performance is important to you, choose an LED headlamp.
