First, we can tell you that unlike other pocket solar chargers, the Brunton Restore has got some guts. Its dual folding panels provide up to 1 watt of power in full sun. This is easily enough for a phone & iPod during a typical summer day. The on-board storage battery holds the same amount as the panel will provide in a day, allowing you to charge your small devices (phone, iPod) twice if need be.
Next, Brunton designers were smart enough to put a rubberized coating on the Restore, and provide a cable connector that seals-up the USB & Mini-USB power ports when not in use.
Other design elements that really work include spaces for lanyards & tie-downs, a rugged hinge on the panel that is also equipped with a spring that keeps it open or closed - it simply doesn't flop around!
Imagine, a water resistant pocket solar charger. Would be great if all manufacturers put as much thought into their chargers as Brunton did with the Restore.
No sun? No problem!
The Brunton Restore provides portable power in a variety of ways. If there is no sun, the on board battery does the job. When the sun is unavailable, charge your Brunton Restore using the included DC USB adaptor in your car (or from a larger solar panel), so even if there is not enough sun, the Brunton Restore will play the part of a back-up battery.
Brunton Restore FAQ...
Can I use my iPod, phone, or PDA while connected to the Brunton Restore?
Yes. The Brunton Restore acts just like a reserve battery. When it is connected, it will power your device & charge the device battery at the same time. If there is daylight, the Brunton Restore will use the power from the sun to provide power & charge your device battery at the same time.
Do I need a sunny day to use the Restore?
No. The Restore will charge as long as there is daylight, with the rate dependant on the intensity of the light. It will produce the most power in direct, bright sunlight. Even at night, the Brunton Restore comes in very handy as a back-up battery for your device.
More than just a good idea...
Over its lifetime, Restore will provide the same amount of power as over 1300 AA batteries! This can save you approx $1500 & stress on the environment.

Brunton Restore Crib Sheet...
Phones, PDAs, & Smart Phones: Use your phone's USB cable that you would normally use to connect your phone to your computer. If your phone uses a Mini-USB or Micro-USB connector, the Restore can connect without an additional cable.
iPods & mp3 Players: Connect your iPod or other mp3 player to the Restore using the Restore's USB port.
Digital Cameras: Many digital cameras can be powered directly from the Restore using the Restore's USB port or Mini-USB adaptor tip. Note that cameras do not 'charge' from USB ports, but many will operate while connected.
NOTE: The Brunton Restore is not able to drive 12V DC chargers for cameras.
GPS: The Restore can power most of the latest GPS models via its USB port. Use the USB computer interface cable that came with your GPS.
AA/AAA Battery Charging: We recommend the Mini-USB Charger, or the Impact USB AA Charger. Both of these models will plug into the Restore's USB port. The Restore has enough power stored in its on-board storage battery to cover 2 high-capacity AA rechargeables (2700mAHr).
The Restore's solar panel output is great enough to charge up to 2 standard AA rechargeables per day (ie fully recharges a depleted on-board storage battery in 2 days).
Other Devices: Anything that can operate from USB or its Mini & Micro cousins will be happy with power from the Restore.
It is not able to support devices above 5W, and so cannot power laptop computers.
