Using the Solo with Solar...

The Solo 15 is an ideal power storage solution for solar panels. Especially for portable applications. Instead of packing a 25AHr sealed-lead-acid battery pack weighing over 20lbs, you can get the same storage from the Solo 15 and only 4lbs to carry. The only advantage left for the heavy SLA batteries if for higher wattage demands (like inverters), and worldwide service (SLA batteries are available just about everywhere).

Connecting the Solo to solar panels is typically done via the Solo's 12V cigarette plug. Most portable folding panels use the CLA cigarette socket as a standard form of output connector. Plug the Solo into the socket, place the panel in the sun, and you are charging. A meter on the face of the Solo lets you know how full it is. It is even possible to charge the Solo at the same time as you draw power from it.

AC power is available from the Solo 15 via a small 60W inverter (included). This is the first time we have seen a lithium-based battery pack driving an AC inverter of any kind. Very handy.

Recommended Solar Panel...

The input range on the Solo is 11-16V DC, which means that the Brunton Solaris 26 & Solaris 52 will work great. The PowerFilm foldable panels & rollable panels also work well. Avoid panels with output voltages above 16.5V
A good matched panel for the Solo 15 would be in the 30-50 Watt range.
We recommend the PowerFilm Foldable 3600. In peak sun, this panel will maximize the allowable input current of the Solo, while also being able to replace all the power stored in the Solo during the course of a summer day (ie. the panel will produce 150-200 Watt-hours per day during summer months, while the Solo 15 stores 150 Watt-hours).
