When it comes to power in a self-powerd flashlight, the Freeplay Jonta has no equal. We were looking for a premium, high powered flashlight to complete our dynamo and self-powered line of flashlights, and Freeplay has delivered in style.
Featuring a 1Watt Luxeon LED element, the Jonta can illuminate objects hundreds of feet away like a compact search light. Being an LED also means that the light produces is very uniform, producing no filament 'hot spots', distortions, or shadows like most common incandescent & halogen flashlights. A lifetime of approximately 100,000 hours also means that you will never replace a bulb - the Jonta LED will last for over 10 years in the 'on' position!
LEDs have established themselves as the most efficient form of lighting, and even at the 1 Watt power output level of the Jonta, provide exceptional run times from a single charge. From a full charge, the Jonta will run for up to 24 hours on 'Energy Saving' mode (low beam), and for up to 2.5 hours on full power (high beam). Should you be miles away from any AC outlet, simply fold out the handle and crank it up. The Jonta will run for 10 minutes on a 30 second winding. Wind it longer to get longer run times.
The Jonta's winding mechanism is the most efficient and rugged available. A charging indicator light lets you know when you are rotating the handle at sufficient RPM to charge the battery, but you can always wind it faster to charge the internal battery faster. Speaking of internal battery, the Jonta uses a high-end NiMh (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery to store the power produced until needed. NiMh batteries are the preferred type of rechargeables as they do not develop a memory over time like the older NiCd technology.
