110 Watt-Hour power storage...
The Outpost Power is built around a 18 amp-hour sealed lead acid battery with AGM construction for reliable service in a broad range of temperatures & long life - longer than gel cell batteries. Isolation switches are provided to prevent mystery drains on the battery. A very nice feature when you are relying on every precious amp produced by your solar panels.
As non-spillable, sealed batteries, the kits are not regulated for air travel, so it's safe to take your OP-18 kit with you overseas. MSDS information is available.
Wondering why we don't use a lighter weight battery like Lithium or NiMh?
Simple. SLA batteries are very resiliant, allow partial charging, allow pass-through charging, do not immediately fail at the end of their useful life, support AC power inverters, and come in a range of capacities that are deep enough to support high-drain devices like laptops, audio equipment & medical devices. We think functionality wins over weight any day.

Flexible charging options...
VEHICLE...
When driving to the trailhead, you can top-up the battery charge by plugging the Outpost Power kit into the cigarette socket in your vehicle.
HOME/OFFICE...
We include a AC power adaptor that plugs directly into the Outpost Power 18 for easy charging from your mains power before heading out on your excursion.
SOLAR (optional)...
When we say flexible, we mean exactly that. The Outpost Power 18 comes with an optional 25 Watt flexible, folding solar panel that is designed for charging even in low light & partial shade. In the spring/summer season (April-Sep), this panel will typically produce 100 Watt-Hours of power, which is enough to power a laptop for about 4 hours. The OP-18 pack stores all the power produced throughout the day, so you can use the power whenever you need it.
An integrated 6 Amp charge controller makes sure that the kit's battery is properly charged no matter which charging method you need to use. Dual inputs make it easy to add more solar when you need it. You can add up to 100W of solar for as much as 400 Watt-hours of power generated per day.
Outlets for all your gear including USB...
The Outpost Power 18 comes equipped with a triple DC outlet hub on a 3' cable that includes illuminated battery status indicator. You also get a 150W AC power inverter with dual outlets to provide you with household AC power when needed. A USB port is also included to power all your computer peripherals, iPods & other mp3 players, PDA, smart phones, & digital storage devices.
Inverter upgrades are available to provide the best 'pure sine wave' output power for your sensitive audio, video, & computer equipment.
All outlets are fused for protection with standard field-replaceable fuses. Battery disconnects allow you to isolate the battery when not in use, saving both power and disabling all outlets for safety.
Portable household AC power...
An AC power inverter will provide household AC power from a battery, but did you know that a sealed lead acid (SLA) battery is the only type of battery that can support an inverter? Lithium & NiMh/NiCd can't provide the kind of amps that an inverter needs, so if you need AC power far from any grid outlet, you need an Outpost Power pack. We use sealed, maintenance-free, non-spillable, AGM batteries so you can use just about any inverter up to 400 Watts.
