If you commonly use a diesel or gas generator to power off-grid loads, you know that you will be using your generator & fuel most efficiently when the loads are in the 50-80% range of your generator’s capacity. Using the generator to charge a battery bank which in turn allows you to run your loads, ensures that your generator is always operating at its peak efficiency and not wasting fuel idling, or powering small loads. Much like a compressor pump, the generator is only used a few times each day to bring the battery bank up to full charge.
